Spill Prevention in Contact Lens Factory

Industry Served: Consumer Products
Problem:

A highly sterile production facility manufacturing liquid materials for contact lens production experienced a critical failure of an air operated diaphragm pump. The pump’s diaphragm ruptured, causing the expensive chemical product to spill across the floor. Beyond the immediate material loss, the incident created contamination risks in a controlled cleanroom environment and exposed the process to costly downtime.

Solution:

To protect the process from future diaphragm failures and eliminate product loss incidents, a SPS 21 2 AT with special pneumatic switch was quoted and implemented. This SPILLSTOP spill prevention device is engineered to detect diaphragm leaks, capture the escaping product, and automatically stop the pump before a full rupture results in a major spill.

Result:

The pump is now fully protected with automated spill detection and shutdown capability. If a diaphragm rupture occurs in the future, the SPILLSTOP will:

• Capture leaked product before it reaches the floor
• Prevent loss of expensive materials
• Protect the sterile environment
• Automatically shut down the pump to avoid further damage or contamination

The result is a safer, cleaner, and far more cost efficient operation, with product loss and cleanroom disruptions effectively eliminated.
