Achieving Even Application of Screen Coating

Industry Served: Consumer Products
Problem:

A manufacturer producing coated screens for residential and industrial windows relied on air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps to deliver coating material to their screen coating machines. However, pulsations generated by the pumps caused the spray nozzles to apply an uneven coating across the screens.

This inconsistency led to quality issues and required re coating, increasing both material waste and production time. Compounding the challenge, the existing equipment layout provided no vertical installation space for a traditional pulsation dampener.

Solution:

To eliminate pulsation without modifying the existing footprint, BLACOH A577 2” pulsation dampeners were installed upside down. Since pressure is equal in all directions and the coating material did not contain heavy solids, this configuration posed no risk of product settling or performance loss.

The inverted installation allowed pulsation dampening to be added despite severe space constraints, smoothing flow to the spray nozzles and stabilizing the coating process.

Result:

With pulsation effectively eliminated, each coating cycle now delivers a smooth, laminar spray pattern, resulting in consistent screen coverage. The improved flow quality has:

• Eliminated uneven coating
• Reduced rework and re coating requirements
• Saved material, time, and production costs
• Improved overall coating quality and process efficiency

By adapting the installation to fit the space, the manufacturer achieved better performance without redesigning the system.
